TANZANIA SCONOSCIUTA / TANZANIA OUT OF THE BEATEN TRACKS – RUKWA LAKE

 

Dopo aver passato la frontiera tra Zambia e Tanzania a Tunduma

Nota di logistica frontiera di TUNDUMA: ci abbiamo messo solo 2:30 ore compreso l’acquisto della SIM card locale contro le 4 o 5 ore necessarie in media per superare i più di 10 uffici e 14 passi per ottenere il timbro di entrata per il passaporto e la toyota GRAZIE all’aver pagato 20 USD ad un ‘fixer’ locale, molto professionale – raccomando assolutamente fare lo stesso e dimenticatevi dei consigli di certi viaggiatori che si può fare tutto da soli senza scucire un soldo ai locali – forse è possibile ma perché perdere 5 ore se puoi farlo in 2 e aiutare l’economia di frontiera con soli 20 USD (18 €) ?

Tre famiglie stavano mangiando grazie al nostro passaggio: 1 quella del fixer, 1 quella del money changer a tassa di cambio ovviamente più bassa di quella ufficiale e 1 quella del venditore di SIM card … tutti devono almeno mangiare, giusto?

Siamo arrivati alla città di Sumbawanga e visitato il lago RUKWA, precisamente il villaggio di Ilanga dove io e il mio attuale compagno di viaggio MIKE abbiamo cercato di navigarne le coste alla ricerca di fantomatiche giraffe albine 39 anni fa (nel lontano 1983) dopo esserci conosciuti nel porto di KIGOMA – questo viaggio in africa nasce anche  da questo incontro ….

Insomma siamo tornati al villaggio di Ilanga dove 39 anni fa non potemmo visitare le coste del lago RUKWA a causa del vento troppo forte, lo stesso è successo adesso, dopo aver affittato una barca da pescatori locali (chiedete dell’ingeniere’ … l’unico nel villaggio che sa parlare un inglese comprensibile) NON abbiamo potuto continuare SEMPRE a causa del forte vento …… un lago inespugnabile, tra 40 anni ci riproveremo!

In ogni caso vale la pena visitare il villaggio di pescatori, la strada per il lago è bellissima, puoi comperare il pregiatissimo riso del RUKWA (veramente buonissimo) e olio di girasole biologico extra vergine (spremuto a freddo da presse locali – vedi foto) e per i non vegetariani pesce secco

Insomma il lago RUKWA vale veramente la pena per veri africa overlanders !!!

After crossing the border between Zambia and Tanzania in Tunduma Border 

 

logistics note from TUNDUMA: it took us only 2:30 hours including the purchase of the local SIM card against the 4 or 5 hours needed on average to overcome the more than 10 offices and 14 steps to get the entry stamp for the passport and toyota THANKS to paying 20 USD to a local, very professional 'fixer' - I highly recommend doing the same and forgetting the advice of some travelers that you can do it all yourself without breaking the locals a penny - maybe you can but why waste 5 hours if you can do it in 2 and help the frontier economy with only 20 USD (18 €)? 

 

Three families were eating thanks to our passage: 1 that of the fixer, 1 that of the money changer with an exchange rate obviously lower than the official one and 1 that of the SIM card seller ... everyone must at least eat, right? 

 

We arrived at the city of Sumbawanga and visited the RUKWA lake, precisely the Ilanga village where my current travel companion MIKE and  myself tried to navigate its coasts in search of ghostly albino giraffes 39 years ago ( back in 1983) after we met in the port of KIGOMA - this trip to africa also comes from this meeting…. 

 

In short, we returned to the village of Ilanga where 39 years ago we could not visit the shores of Lake RUKWA due to the strong wind, the same happened now, after renting a boat from local fishermen (ask for the engineer '... the only in the village who can speak understandable English - see first picture below) 

 

We could NOT ALWAYS continue due to the strong wind ... ... an impregnable lake, in 40 years we will try again! 

In any case it is worth visiting the fishing village, the road to the lake is beautiful, you can buy the precious RUKWA rice (really delicious) and extra virgin organic sunflower oil (cold pressed from local presses - see photo) and for non-vegetarians dry fish 

 

In short, the RUKWA lake is really worth it for true africa overlanders !!!
