selfsafari in kenya

 

.... con giulietta, la mia amatissima fidanzata, abbiamo organizzato un selfsafari in kenya da nairobi ai migliori parchi nazionali del paese: al lago nakuru, poi al maasai mara, dopo amboseli e finalmente riposo sulla costa a sud di mombasa ... la famosissima diani beach dov'è possibile, oltre alla vita di spiaggia, visitare la bellissima riserva marina di kisite (snorkeling o immersioni) ... al confine con la tanzania

fare selfsafari è certamente un'impresa piuttosto complessa e che richiede, oltre che a un veicolo 4x4 (toyota land cruiser è sicuramente la migliore opzione), una tenda preferibilmente montata sul tetto della macchina (i camp site - CS - dei parchi spesso sono aperti con ippopotami elefanti e gattoni affamati che circolano di notte), attrezzatura da camping ma soprattutto domestichezza ed esperienza - nei parchi - nell'uso del veicolo in situazioni difficili, deep sand, deep dust, tratti pantanosi, strade rocciose, guadi ecc. .... insomma grande divertimento per chi ama guidare fuoristrada (come il sottoscritto:) ...

e in quasi tutti i paesi visitati, kenya non esente, la capacità di districarsi nel caotico traffico urbano (nairobi e mombasa) o sopravvivere tra le file di camion soprattutto nei tratti nairobi - lago nakuru e nairobi - mombasa ... in effetti tutti i tuk tuk (tutti della piaggio!), i microbus (i famosi matatu kamikaze) e i camion pesanti guidano come pazzi con sorpassi mozzafiato che meglio non imitare ... tutto ciò vale per gli spostamenti su strada tra un parco e l'altro che in kenya richiedono percorsi di centinaia di km e una media di 6 - 7 h di guida ad alta tensione e concentrazione ....

...l'esperienza del selfsafari è quindi di grande libertà di movimento fuori e dentro i parchi senza praticamente limiti di tempo (se siete disposti a pagare 60 $ / giorno per persona) e luoghi, campeggiare dentro i parchi è bellissimo (i CS sono fissi e sempre attrezzati con acqua, WC e doccie) e puoi accendere un fuoco se paghi per la legna ... le bestie sono spesso a vista (nel maasai mara eravamo circondati da elefanti) o passeggiano nel CS (zebre al nakuru!) e soprattutto sei completamente solo ! .... io  la giulietta eravamo i soli campeggiatori selfsafari in tutti i parchi visitati ... e questo la dice lunga ...

per vedere le bestie ci si alza presto (alle 6 - 7 in macchina) e si passa tutta la giornata in giro sulle piste indicate dalle mappe del parco o dalle mappe offline (locus map o track4africa) e l'esperinza è indimenticabile ... e certamente molto migliore del resto dei turisti dei pacchetti organizzati che visitano i parchi per 2 - 3 h in macchine aperte e con 5 - 7 persone dentro ... il costo del selfsafari è circa equivalente a quello dei pacchetti 'popolari' e molto inferiore a quello dei costosissimi lodge che pullulano i parchi ...

con tanto tempo a disposizione e un po di fortuna (aiutata anche da una guida maasai al parco del maasai mara) abbiamo visto i big 5 quasi ogni giorno ! (i big 5: elefante, rinoceronte, bufalo, leone e leopardo) ... non si contano la cheeta, gli ippopotami, zebre, giraffe, facoceri e antilopi di tutti i tipi (cibo per leoni) 

al nakuru e maasai mara siamo stati nei public CS dentro i parchi stessi (30 $ a testa per notte !), sempre al maasai mara abbiamo anche campeggiato all'aruba CS a talek (dove troverete le guide masai di nome mark ed edward) all'amboseli abbiamo campeggiato alll'oldoniyo musa camp (da dove si può vedere il kilimangiaro - vedi foto)

AFFRETTATEVI A FARE SAFARI IN AFRICA, MOLTI PARCHI SOPRATTUTTO I PICCOLI COME IL NAKURU E AMBOSELI STANNO DIVENTANDO PRATICAMENTE  DEGLI ZOO A CIELO APERTO CON I POCHI ANIMALI ATTORNIATI DA DECINE DI MACCHINE PIENE DI TURISTI ...   

le immersioni nel kisite sono in genere poco profonde (mediamente 20 m) e assicurano la vista di tartarughe, delfini, polipi, aragoste, cernie giganti, pescecoccodrillo e un bellissimo paesaggio di coralli ........ ottimo per tutti anche per i sub meno esperti ...

.... with Juliet, my amatissima girlfriend, we organized a selfsafari in kenya from nairobi to the best national parks in the country: to lake nakuru, then to maasai mara, after amboseli and finally rest on the coast south of mombasa ... the famous diani beach where it is possible, in addition to beach life, to visit the beautiful marine reserve of kisite (snorkeling or diving) ... on the border with tanzania

making self-safaris is certainly a rather complex undertaking and which requires, in addition to a 4x4 vehicle (toyota land cruiser is certainly the best option), a tent preferably mounted on the roof of the car (the camp site - CS - of the parks are often openspaces  with hippos, elephants and hungry big cats circulating at night), camping equipment but above all be familiar and and experience - in parks - in driving the vehicle in difficult situations, deep sand, deep dust, swampy stretches, rocky roads, rivercrossing etc. .... in short, a great fun for those who love off-road driving (like myself :) ...

 in addition, in almost all the countries visited, kenya not exempt, the ability to extricate themselves in the chaotic urban traffic (nairobi and mombasa) or survive among the rows of trucks especially in the nairobi - lake nakuru and nairobi - mombasa sections ... 

in fact all tuk tuk (all from piaggio!), microbuses (the infamous matatu kamikaze) and heavy trucks drive like crazy with breathtaking overtaking that better not to imitate ... all this applies to traveling by road between one park and another that in kenya requires routes of hundreds of km and an average of 6 - 7 h of driving at high tension and concentration .... ... 

the experience of the self-safari is therefore of great freedom of movement outside and inside the parks with practically no time limits (if you are willing to pay 60 $ / day per person) and places, camping inside the parks is beautiful (the CS they are fixed and always equipped with water, toilets and showers) and you can light a fire if you pay for the wood ... the beasts are often in sight (in the maasai mara we were surrounded by elephants) or they walk in the CS (zebras at the nakuru!) and above all you are completely alone! .... I and Juliet were the only selfsafari campers in all the parks visited ... and this says a lot ... 

....... to see the beasts you have to get up early (at 6 - 7 in the car) and spend the whole day driving around on the tracks indicated by the park maps or by the offline maps (locus map or track4africa) and the experience is unforgettable ... and certainly much better than the rest of the organized package tourists who visit the parks for 2 - 3 h in open cars and with 5 - 7 people inside ... 

the cost of the selfsafari is about equivalent to that of the 'popular' packages and much lower to that of the very expensive lodges that swarm the parks ... 

with a lot of time and a bit of luck (also helped by a maasai guide at the maasai mara park) we saw the big 5 almost every day! (the big 5: elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard) ... countless of cheeta, hippos, zebras, giraffes, warthogs and antelopes of all kinds (food for lions) 

 at nakuru and maasai mara we stayed in public CS inside the parks (30 $ each per night!), always at maasai mara we also camped at aruba CS in talek (where you will find masai guides named mark and edward) at amboseli we camped to the oldoniyo musa camp (from where you can see the kilimanjaro - see photo)

HURRY UP TO GO SAFARI IN AFRICA, MANY PARKS ESPECIALLY THE SMALLS LIKE THE NAKURU AND AMBOSELI ARE PRACTICALLY BECOMING OPEN-AIR ZOO WITH THE FEW ANIMALS SURROUNDED BY TENS OF CARS FULL OF TOURISTS ... 

in kisite marine reserve dives are generally shallow (on average 20 m) and ensure the sight of turtles, dolphins, octopuses, lobsters, giant groupers, crocodile fish and a beautiful coral landscape ........ great for everyone also for less experienced divers ... 

in the photos the big 5 ... camping at maasai mara ... hectares of flamingos at nakuru etc. etc.

a diani beach .... passeggiate con birrette al ciringuito sulla spiaggia al tramonto ... il ristorante 'the nomad' è sicuramente il migliore in assoluto
